Al Hamra

A master developer in Ras Al Khaimah delivering waterfront residential, leisure and commercial communities on the Arabian Gulf.

Al Hamra is one of Ras Al Khaimah's longest-established master developers, created in 2003 and known for building the emirate's western resort strip. Its flagship Al Hamra Village combines residential districts with an 18-hole championship golf course, a marina and several hotels, and the group has since extended into logistics and retail assets across the emirate.

Its portfolio is unusually broad for a developer of its size, spanning Al Hamra Village, Al Hamra Golf Club, the Royal Yacht Club of Ras Al Khaimah and Manar Mall. That retail and leisure ownership means the group earns operating income rather than only development margin, and it is why Al Hamra appears in the emirate's tourism numbers as well as its property ones.

One portfolio change is worth stating plainly because it is widely misreported: Al Hamra no longer owns Al Hamra Mall. It sold the mall to Aldar Properties in February 2022 for 410 million dirhams, roughly 111.6 million dollars, in what was Aldar's first acquisition outside Abu Dhabi. The mall kept the Al Hamra name, which is why many guides still credit the wrong owner. Manar Mall, by contrast, remains an Al Hamra asset, and the group invested roughly 100 million dollars expanding it from 27,000 to 55,000 square metres.

The group's current development focus is at the luxury end. Waldorf Astoria Residences Ras Al Khaimah, a branded-residence project with Hilton inside the existing Waldorf Astoria resort, was announced for 2026. Reported unit counts differ between sources, at 38 in some and 43 in others, so the figure should be treated as unconfirmed until handover.

Frequently asked questions

What is Al Hamra Village?

Al Hamra's flagship development on the western coast of Ras Al Khaimah, combining residential districts with an 18-hole championship golf course, a marina and several hotels. It is the centre of the emirate's resort strip and sits a short drive from Al Marjan Island.

Does Al Hamra own Al Hamra Mall?

Not since February 2022, when Al Hamra sold the mall to Aldar Properties for 410 million dirhams, about 111.6 million dollars, in Aldar's first acquisition outside Abu Dhabi. The mall kept the Al Hamra name, which is why many guides still credit the wrong owner.

Does Al Hamra own Manar Mall?

Yes. Manar Mall remains an Al Hamra asset, operated through Al Hamra Real Estate Development, and the group invested roughly 100 million dollars expanding its gross leasable area from 27,000 to 55,000 square metres. This is the mall Al Hamra still owns, unlike the one carrying its name.

Who runs Al Hamra?

Benoy Kurien is group chief executive. The company was established in 2003 and is headquartered in Ras Al Khaimah, operating across residential development, hospitality, logistics and retail.

What is Al Hamra building now?

Waldorf Astoria Residences Ras Al Khaimah, a branded-residence project developed with Hilton within the existing Waldorf Astoria resort and announced for 2026. Reported unit counts vary between 38 and 43 depending on the source, so treat the number as unconfirmed until handover.

Is Al Hamra the same as Al Hamra Mall?

No, and the shared name causes persistent confusion. Al Hamra is a master developer founded in 2003; Al Hamra Mall is a shopping centre it built and then sold to Aldar Properties in 2022. The developer still owns Manar Mall, the emirate's other main mall.
