Innovation City and IOPn switch on Middle East's first sovereign AI data centre

Innovation City has switched on what it and infrastructure partner Siada, part of IOPn, describe as the Middle East's first sovereign AI data centre, giving companies licensed in the free zone hourly, reserved or fully managed access to Nvidia B200 GPUs — chips still in short supply across the region. All processing and data storage happens onshore, with workloads kept under UAE jurisdiction throughout rather than routed through third-country cloud infrastructure.

For founders in fintech, digital health, and government-adjacent work, data residency is frequently a regulatory precondition rather than a preference, and a live sovereign facility gives Innovation City an infrastructure argument to set against DIFC and ADGM — not just a licensing-speed and cost one. Paired with the zone's 2–3 day approvals, it sharpens RAK's pitch to AI-native teams deciding where compute, not just incorporation, should sit. Our AI sector page covers the fuller comparison.
