What happened

The Ras Al Khaimah Tourism Development Authority (RAKTDA) has announced a strategic partnership with US-based Joby Aviation and Skyports Infrastructure to bring electric vertical take-off and landing (eVTOL) aircraft to the emirate. The initiative is slated for a full operational rollout by 2027, marking a significant leap in the emirate's transport infrastructure.

The project focuses on creating a seamless, sustainable transport network that connects key tourism hubs, including Al Marjan Island, with other strategic points across the emirate. By utilizing electric air taxis, RAK aims to reduce ground congestion and offer high-net-worth visitors a futuristic arrival and transit experience.

Skyports Infrastructure will lead the development of the 'vertiports'—specialized landing and charging hubs required for eVTOL operations. This infrastructure is designed to integrate with existing transit systems, ensuring that the transition from air to ground is frictionless for passengers.

This move aligns with RAK's broader Vision 2030 goals of sustainable development and technological integration. By positioning itself as an early adopter of advanced air mobility, Ras Al Khaimah is enhancing its appeal as a global luxury destination and a hub for innovation in the Middle East.
