The Ras Al Khaimah Fitness Challenge is returning for a third edition, with registration opening at the start of September across gyms in the emirate. The initiative was launched in 2025 at the direction of Sheikh Mohammed bin Saud Al Qasimi, Crown Prince of Ras Al Khaimah, as part of a broader push to encourage physical activity and healthier lifestyles among residents.

Eligibility is limited to UAE citizens holding a Ras Al Khaimah passport, aged 13 to 30, with a body mass index of at least 40, who are members of a gym in the emirate. The top 20 finishers split cash prizes, with the winner taking home Dh50,000 and the prize amount stepping down by Dh1,000 for each subsequent position.

The programme also rewards participants who don't place in the top 20: those who lose weight over the challenge period receive Dh1,000 for every kilogram shed, a structure introduced in the second edition specifically to keep participation worthwhile beyond the podium finishers.

Previous editions have produced genuine results — past winners have documented losses of up to 19-34 kilograms over the challenge period, and organisers report that many participants keep the habits after the prize money is paid out. For a government-backed public health initiative, that retention is the actual metric that matters more than the headline prize figure.
